2003 Treatment Plan

• New to Michigan as of May 13 is the approved use of Renovate 3.  This has no shallow well restrictions and is safer than 2,4-D.  Due to failure of chemical manufacturer to get irrigation data to DEQ, the irrigation restriction is 120 days OR until water tests indicate a safe watering condition.  The average wait in Michigan is 3 weeks or sooner.
• Renovate has been permitted by the DEQ to be used on Pontiac Lake at concentrations of 1.2 PPM or if near wet-land area 0.8PPM
• Application method will be one time treatment using an under the surface applicator.  The chemical is mixed with an inert agent to help it “stick” to the weeds and slow movement with the flow of water.

• Floridone (SONAR) is now on 3-year cycle. Next treatment for Pontiac Lake is 2004
• 2,4-D, which has been our alternate chemical for years, is now under scrutiny of “shallow wells” by a new requirement that lake must document all well locations of riparians.

Area A "yellow shaded area" is safe for all uses.

Area B "blue shaded area" treated on 7/7/2003 is safe for all uses, with the exception of the canal "now identified as the "gray" area on the map above, the canal test results still show a chemical concentration higher that what is approved for irrigation, the last test was completed on 8/2/2003.
